Merchant of the Month: March 2026
We’re excited to launch our Merchant of the Month series with our very first feature: Earth Tribe Shop! Each month, the Ellicott City Partnership will highlight a local Main Street business through a special photo and video shoot, plus an exclusive interview with the owner.
Get to know Meagan Braganca, owner of the eco-conscious boutique Earth Tribe Shop, in our full interview below.
Tell us about your business.
"It's an eco shop, and I sell organic cotton clothing, bamboo clothing, all-natural skin care, personal care, accessories, sustainable lifestyle items, that kind of thing. We are also starting to offer eco gift bags for women's wellness retreats and bridesmaids’ gifts."
What problems does your business solve for customers?
"A portion of all sales goes to 1% for the planet. Our chosen charity is Sea Tree Sustainable Surf. So people can shop for products that are better for them, better for the planet. Have less waste. Are made by other small brands, small companies, so they can feel good about their purchase. I have a high standard for what I will carry. I have returned a lot of wholesale items that, you know, just did not meet the standard of what I like to carry here. So, I curate. It just makes eco shopping easier, all, and it gives back. And this past week we just found out that we're a certified green business through the Green Business Network."
What makes your business unique?
"Anything you buy here I've made sure that it's eco conscious, and that it's a high-quality product. I've looked at all the ingredients for the personal care items. I use everything here myself. I like to buy from small brands that make small batch products. Our greeting cards are plantable, they clean up trash with every sale. I also like to carry other 1% for the planet brands
I've been an environmental activist for a very long time. People can buy better. It's just that they don't know about a lot of the small brands out there. And so, I'm trying to bring that to the marketplace."
Who is your ideal customer?
"The shop caters to women, really any. I have regular customers that are the full range of Gen Alpha to Baby Boomers. I tend to see more just eco conscious women that are Millennial and Gen X."
What has been your proudest milestone so far?
"That’s a tough question. Probably the green business. Took a while to get you know. I had to make sure I put all the ingredients of everything on the site, and country of origin for everything. I just had to make sure all that stuff was readily available. That was big."
What challenges have you overcome as a business owner?
"I was new to retail, and I'm a total introvert. I had to come out of my shell every day. I think a little bit every day is challenging for me. I don't know. Retail is up and down and that's sort of the ongoing challenge."
How do you support or engage with your community?
"I do a lot of events. I try to do as many gift card requests as I can for local events, and donations for events that that people are having. I'm engaging with email and social media. I would like to move to a bigger spot and have some more event type things."
What products or services are you most excited about right now?
"I'm really excited about offering gift bags to honest retreat planners. It's something that I'm just starting to do and just starting to reach out to planners. It’s a growing industry right now, just because so many women are stressed out. That’s the thing I'm super excited about right now, just kind of collaborating. I just started carrying products up at Studio Claire Pilates."
What's next for your business?
"I'd like to move to one of the buildings that is on sale by the county. I'd like to move up the street. Right now I'm in 250 square feet, you know, so just hoping to move to a bigger spot. And hoping to have more collaborations."
What do you want customers to feel when they work with you?
"Totally relaxed. I'm not gonna say increase your energy, or high energy, or like I need something from you, or something. I want people to come in here and feel totally chill."
