Columbia Pro Cantare Sings Brahms' Schicksalslied
Description
Columbia Pro Cantare opens its 50th season with a concert featuring Brahms Schicksalslied, a work first performed by the chorus in 1979. Brahms began work on Schicksalslied (Song of Fate) in 1868, just months after the premiere of Ein Deutsches Requiem.  Dramatic in text and instrumentation, Schicksalslied contrasts the happy lives of the gods with the unhappy fate of humankind. Contemporary works– “A Little Jazz Mass” by Bob Chilcott and pieces by Dan Forrest, Rosephanye Powell, and Jack Runestad–contrast with the Brahms. CPC in performance
